Evaluation

Evaluation:

To begin this task we were set to create a Video Game trailer and to begin with we researched through trailers to gain an understanding of what we have to create and how one is laid out. I look at a few trailer which I thought were good and present the story and music well, Once that was done I went to create my own and for this I started by creating a mind map and coming up with ideas for a main character and a story. At first I want to create some high level of detail but as I drawing out I felt it wasn't unique, I created a flash stick man drawing and I thought of that style but I saw a few class mates of mine were doing the same style and I wanted mine to stand out. I looked at what I wanted to do so I can up with a few ideas but one idea which I used were high detailed human stick men and I liked this because there was no face but I would use there body language to show how they feel. I had my character designs and I need to come up with a story but I had some difficulty's, reason begin is all the ideas which I came up with had already been done but I came up with idea which had already been done but I used my own elements to make it into something of my own. I had all the ideas down and I created all the images in Photoshop while I was doing this I was looking into music and I looked around but I came across and orchestra group which creates dramatic music "Two Steps From Hell" I like the style a lot so I chose one of there tracks to be in my trailer. To make the trailer I placed my first scene into After Effects but I only managed to create on scene and for this I used an video taken off YouTube and it was the coding off "The Matrix".
Over this task I have learnt a more about the programs which I use and also how to construct my time and how to develop story and characters better.

For the second task we were set to work on a new program which I have not used before Construct 2, I heard previously that it has similarity's to Adobe Flash. To begin with we started to get an understanding of it by creating demo's, when we were finished, we had to create a video game level based on the video game trailer which we made before hand. I began by recreating some back grounds and when I finished a few more designs to place everything in Construct 2 we had to delete the white backgrounds and ALWAYS save them as a PNG file. To begin with I had to resize my images file's to fit in the canvas for construct 2. When I placed my main character coloured in Construct 2 the colour would not show up and I was a bit concerned but I had to use the paint bucket in to fill in the colour which I wan't happy with but I found in game play it looked OK. For the enemy I created the sketch but During this time I created a ruff copy with all the coding working and when I changed the graphic's the game began to not run well and due to the time which I had I kept the ruff sketch of the enemy. The game itself run's OK but I had a few issues along the way but I managed to sort them out. For the soft wear itself I enjoy the simplified coding but I found myself missing the tools found in Adobe Flash and I think in the future I would use Adobe Flash.

In almost no time you can test your ideas and know if they are really fun or not, focusing your efforts in what matters the most: designing your game!"

To begin with I started to create some sketches in Photoshop and when I finished these I saved them as a PNG file and deleted the background. Once this was finished I placed it into Construct 2 and I was able to make it to a playable character.

This is an early design of my game character, I cancelled this character design because I wasn't to sure if it would fit in well with my game.

This is an early level design, I used one of my landscapes which I painted in Photoshop but to place it in Construct I had to resize the image so it would fit in the area limit, after that was done I added a few platform section In Photoshop and save them as a PNG file and again place it into Construct and moved it in to the right place so the player would be able to reach it when being played. When the blocks were in the right place I put collision on the blocks so the player would be able to walk on them and I place collision and flash on the enemy for when you hit them.

This is a sketch of my character and this was done in Photoshop, I did add colour but as I placed the character into construct 2 the colour would not appear so I place the character in the program and used the paint bucket to add the colour.

This is the character with colour I am not to happy with this outcome but from the distance of game play you can not notice it much but I am trying to find a solution for the colour problem which I am having.

Game play: this is the game play and for the character i did him bouncing up and down while walking along and to change image of the character when jumping to give it a better realism feel to it.

Enemy moving left and right, and when hitting the playable character he flashes when damaged and when the character moves he moves up and down along with when jumped on he flashes and the character jumps in the air.

Jumping animation when jumping from platform to platform.

For the coding I found it to be more simple and I prefer this to flash, reason being is the layout design and knowing what to put in I find it much better I had a few little issues with some of the coding for the characters but I managed to over come them and proceed with the game.

Experimentation:

For my game I was looking at two different bits of coding for the Enemy and I was look at on where the Enemy moves left and right following the enemy and Another with moves horizontal and a high speed which I control I have looked and played both of the one of them make the enemy fall off the map and the other one work much better and the collision work on it.

Demo's

Demo's
Construct 2. Uses HTML 5, uses simple and easy scrpting, just click buttons and does for you.

Construct 2 is a HTML based game editor developed by Scirra LTD. It is aimed at mainly non programmers    , Which is why it uses things like the drag and drop methods. To make things a lot easier and simple for the user.

We began by starting generating a brand new file, place and image which I took of google Images and when  that was done I had to resize the image and place it again in Construct 2.

Stop Frame Animation

For are stop animation we created a blutack man and used a action figure and by a stop motion animation which we use a camera and took up to 55 photos and then, Once finished We place it in After effects and placed it together and made it run smoother.

For research I have looked at other peoples work and I found a batman Version with action figures and I found it to be so Inspiring it made want to create something such as this given the Time but due to my time line I was unable to create anything at high level as this.

Generation

To begin with I began by creating a few sketches and Ideas in Photoshop of what I wanted in my game.
To begin with I started by creating a first person shooter image of Game play.

For character I was think about my time which I had to create this project and I was thinking of stick men and how effective they can be, So I thought of having detailed stick men.

This is the first person shooting for this The Game play will be where you move the mouse and click the right button to shoot.

I have been creating a few ruff sketches of the choice selection I Feel that this is the main element to my game.

For my final design I used a basic standers used of black and white and you press circle, triangle, square and x to choose speech options.

Story Board

For this story Board I had a few problem with creating a story and making sure that the characters were well done and fit in well with the story.

Character Board:

Character Card:

Experimentation:
With this experimentation we took a video of youtube placed it in flash and traced over the video frame by frame to create a animation and the reason why we did this was to expand on methods to create are trailer.

Environment:

For the environment I didn't want it to be bland so I have creating something which I think fits in well with my gametrailer.

This is the indoor environment element of game play and this helped me to draw with perspective.
Since the game Is based of a virus I was think of it being where an object was causing it or where a door way was causing it.

This is the level for Construct 2 I created an 2d background design to fit in with the level and place the block as platform for the character.

Gameplay:

These are my drawing in Photoshop To show the game trailers layout and how its going to go when the drawings are finished I will place them in After effects and make it in there.
The game hold elements of choice and gun game play.

Gun game play  For this I was think of having it first person shooter but I wasn't sure of the design so I went the third person shooter and I did prefer it.

This is the upgrade system and I wanted something simple and easy to use my inspiration of design came from Mass Effect design.

As for the enemy of the game I wanted to show him off at the end of the trailer.

Final Story Board:
The reason why I have created another Story board is to help me to place the shot in the right time frame and to give some understanding to the story.

Trailer:
This is a small clip of the trailer due to time working on it I was unable to complete the whole trailer and for this I used the screen title form "The Matrix" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLkn8ZCHA9k) and then I placed the image and the clip in to Aftereffects and rendered it out.

Music
For music I have looked at certain tracks which I think will fit in well with my game, I began by looking at trailers to see how the music adds more effect and at what level they use it at. I see that most trailers are very dramatic and show emotion of the area and the characters.
For the first song I have looked at Two Steps From Hell.
The reason why I chose this track is because it is fast pace and shows and dark, dramatic feel to the trailer which I am making.

Demo

To begin with we started Demo work and for this we created a short video through flash and ruff lay out of are trailer. The effect I used was onion skin where I drew each frame.

I like this style of drawing animation through flash but I don't think that it is the right style for me to create my trailer but I think it is something for me to keep in mind.

Research/Idea Generation

For are first task we have to research into video game trailers and mainly 2d. To begin with I started by looking on you tube at comic book style trailer the reason why is because I feel that they can be effective and can present a good story and be able to mix game play as well.

For the first trailer I have looked at the Dead Space 2 Ignition, The reason why I have selected this trailer is because It holds story through comic book style and hold element of game play but dosent over load the trailer and give away too much just enough to tempt the viewer to by it. This trailer to the game is also advertisement to the game Dead Space 2 which was coming out later that month. The music was dark and gritty and held lot on emotion and increased the feel on the trailer.

The second game is not a trailer but show how comic book style can present a in-depth story in a short period of time. This is the Mass Effect 1 comic book story and this was due to the second game appearing on ps3 and the first one did not appear on the console so Biowear created this to get the player up to speed with the story. Is hold interactive game play where you are able to make choices through out the story which will effect the story outcome and your saved date transferred over to the second game. Through out the story the is a voice over of the main character telling the story.

For the Third trailer I have chosen a highly cinematic trailer of Mass Effect 3 trailer and I have selected this dude the story it tells and the music. The music I dramatic and hold alot of emotion and this helps you to care about the characters and get a better understanding of the situation of the story. This is an aspect which I would like to use in my trailer.

I found another trailer which I think is effective which draws in a larger audience, it is Transformers Fall Of Cybertron and it is based on robot but still holds human emotion and has enough to care.

Mind Map:

Story:
For the story I was thinking of something which was dark and bloody, I have chosen the horror genre because I feel that they can hold a lot of impact on the viewer and the games which gave me inspiration for this was Dead Space, Dead Rising and the Mass Effect series. The age rating for his game will probably be 18+.

Ideas 1 story:
It is based on a infection which mutates human and it is up to the main character to destroy the infection, For this character to do this something terrible happens to him and the saying is I was thinking of it "What are you asking me to do?" "What are you papered to do?"
Idea 2:
Zombies have over run a small town and it up to the character to get his family to safety.
Idea 3:
A character has been infected with a mutation and he need to be able to find a cure for help him self.

Action Plan:

Game play:
For game play I was thinking of something like puzzle solving along with first person shooting. And for this I would also use elements of plat forming but one element of game play which I am highly fond of is Choice, this can make a game interesting and draws the player back and experience something completely different and I feel that something which I would like to use.

This is the style of shooting which I would like to use and this is a shot of the game The Walking Dead. The reason why I have selected this Is because I think you get more of an up close experience.

Sound/Music:
We are able to use to soundtrack but have reference to the track and for my trailer I have a few ideas to use but also sound effects which are found through the internet.
For music I have found a few sound effect which I think will work really well and I think that I can also Have found a few track to use as back ground music.

Sound effect I have been looking into Flesh, blood sounds to increase the horror in the game and also show the twisted form of the monsters.
